UK-based, Australian multi-instrumentalist Gwyn Ashton is an eclectic live performer blending hardcore alternative blues with ethnic music, fusing them together with alternate-tuned electric/acoustic instruments such as lap slide, National resonator, 12-string and electric guitars, kick drum and blues harp along with loopers and fuzz boxes to complete his sonic palette. He is a master of the slide guitar and has an armoury of instruments at his fingertips to create a unique, huge-sounding one-man live show, bringing the blues into the 21st Century.
GwynAshtonpromo1webAn inductee in the ‘South Australian Rock & Roll Hall of Fame’, ex Swanee, Stevie Wright, Jim Keays axeman Ashton grew up playing the Australian circuit and re-located to the UK in 1996. He now records, tours and plays festivals and venues all over the world from his Euro base. He has had two albums simultaneously on the Amazon ‘Top 100 Albums’ chart and has many ‘Album of the Year’ and ‘Album of the Month’ credits to his name.
Ashton has toured with BB King, Ray Charles, Buddy Guy, Mick Taylor, Rory Gallagher, Peter Green, Junior Wells, Johnny Winter, Canned Heat, Robin Trower, Jeff Healey, The Yardbirds, Status Quo, Magnum and many others. He has recorded with Kim Wilson, Robbie Blunt, Chris Glen/Ted McKenna (SAHB, MSG), Don Airey (Deep Purple, Whitesnake, Rainbow, Black Sabbath, Ozzy Osbourne) and Gerry McAvoy & Brendan O’Neill (Rory Gallagher). Ashton replaced Thin Lizzy/Motorhead guitarist Brian Robertson fronting Band Of Friends – a memorial to Rory Gallagher featuring Gerry, Brendan, Lou Martin and Mark Feltham.
